ORDERED BY THE SOUTH EASTERN AND CHATHAM RAILWAY BUT NOT BUILT UNTIL OCTOBER 1923 BY THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY AT ASHFORD TO DIAGRAM NO. 1681 AS ONE OF A BATCH OF 12.
LENGTH 29’ 6”. WHEELBASE 22’ 6”. TARE WEIGHT  9 TONS.
ORIGINALLY RATED AT 20 TONS BUT UPRATED TO 21 TONS IN 1942.

DESIGNATED “WELL B” (LATER Mac B”) BY THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY AND “LOWMAC” BY BRITISH RAILWAYS. TRANSFERRED TO INTERNAL USE IN EASTLEIGH WORKS IN 1963 AND RE-NUMBERED 081807.

PURCHASED FROM BR IN APRIL 1990, IT WAS LOCATED ON THE KENT & EAST SUSSEX RAILWAY (KESR NO 160) UNTIL TRANSFER TO THE ROTHER VALLEY RAILWAY IN 1995.

EX-SOUTHERN RAILWAY  25 TON BRAKE VAN

NO. 56107

ORDERED BY THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY IN 1930 AND BUILT BETWEEN MAY 1931 AND APRIL 1932 TO DIAGRAM NO. 1579 (LOT NO. L581) AS ONE OF A BATCH OF 100. BUILT AT THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY WORKS AT LANCING.

LENGTH 24’. WHEELBASE 16’. TARE WEIGHT 25 TONS.

BUILT WITH RIGHT-HANDED GUARDS DUCKETS. IT IS RESTORED INTO FULL SOUTHERN RAILWAY LIVERY.

PURCHASED AND LOCATED ON THE SPA VALLEY RAILWAY FROM FEBRUARY 1998 UNTIL MOVED TO THE ROTHER VALLEY RAILWAY IN 2001.

THE SIDES ARE CONSTRUCTED OF PLYWOOD WITH CORRUGATED STEEL ENDS AND OLEO HYDRAULIC BUFFERS. IT IS HEAVILY INSULATED TO PRESERVE ITS CARGO.

IT IS BEING RESTORED IN THE BR LIVERY OF BAUXITE WITH FYFFES BANANAS LOGOS.

ARRIVED AT THE ROTHER VALLEY RAILWAY IN AUGUST 2004.

EX-BP/SHELL MEX  TANK WAGON  NO. 160

BP 160 WAS REGISTERED IN 1898 BY THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY (NO. 4012).

IT WAS BUILT TO CARRY BLACK OIL. IT HAS A RIVETED TANK OF 10 TON CAPACITY CARRIED ON A WOODEN CHASSIS.

ALONG WITH BP NO 529, IT WAS LATTERLY USED BY BRITISH RAILWAYS AS A DIESEL FUEL OIL STORAGE TANK AT TUNBRIDGE WELLS WEST DEPOT.

PURCHASED FROM BRITISH RAILWAYS IN MAY 1982 AND DELIVERED IN DECEMBER 1983, IT WAS LOCATED ON THE KENT & EAST SUSSEX RAILWAY (KESR NOS. 142) UNTIL TRANSFER TO THE ROTHER VALLEY RAILWAY IN 1995.

THREE PLANK OPEN WAGON 

INCREDIBLY THIS VEHICLE STARTED LIFE AS STANDARD 12 TON VENTILATED VAN (DESIGNATED VANFIT) NO. B758315 BUILT BY BRITISH RAILWAYS AT WOLVERTON IN 1952 TO DIAGRAM NO. 1/208. LOT NO. 2318.

IT WAS LATTERLY IN USE AS A STORE AT EAST WIMBLEDON DEPOT.

IT WAS ACQUIRED BY THE KENT & EAST SUSSEX RAILWAY AND IN 1978 IT WAS CONVERTED BY THEIR CARRIAGE & WAGON DEPARTMENT INTO A 3 PLANK, FULL DROPSIDE WAGON (KESR NO. 122), USING SIDES AND WHEELS CANIBALISED FROM OTHER VEHICLES. IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY FITTED WITH A VACUUM BRAKE IN SEPTEMBER 1983.

IT ARRIVED AT THE ROTHER VALLEY RAILWAY IN 1997.
